Dhiren Mehta has over 25 years of experience in the Indian market and has managed several large institutional investors across multi-asset classes.
He joined Avendus in 2016 from Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR) as Managing Director, Capital Strategies. At Avendus, he plays an instrumental role in building the asset management business of the firm, including the acquisition of Ocean Dial Asset Management – a UK based asset management company. He currently leads Ocean Dial, India and is also responsible for capital raising from investors in the Asian subcontinent.
Dhiren was a senior member of the KKR team that built the structured finance business in India. His role involved raising capital for KKR NBFC and its structured credit fund from institutional investors and family offices of the country. During his five-year stint, he has also worked closely with KKR’s private equity (PE) team and helped its portfolio companies expand their access to capital markets.
Prior to joining KKR, he was Executive Director and Head of Fixed Income Institutional Sales for Nomura, India. He started his career with Citigroup, where he played a key role in building its fixed income and equities platform. During his 17-year stint at Citi, he managed several large relationships across banks, corporates, pension funds, asset management firms and insurance companies and additionally, headed the credit trading and primary dealership.
A Chartered Accountant by profession, Dhiren holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Sydenham College, Mumbai. He was a Board Member of Primary Dealer Association of India (PDAI) from 2005 to 2007 and was also a member of The Fixed Income Money Market and Derivatives Association of India's (FIMMDA) working committee for Local Currency Credit Derivatives in India.
